Eastview, NY - Abandoned in 1930s
« Thread Started on Jan 20, 2010, 1:38am »

Just a quick note that I've finished creating a webpage about the history of Eastview, New York.

The village of Eastview was bought up by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. in the 1930s and pretty much wiped off the map. There's nothing left of it. I've added a map showing where the buildings used to be, and some newspaper articles with interviews from the people who had to move.

Thanks for this information!! I have been doing my family tree and a lot of my ancestors were from Eastview and it's amazing that their names are listed on the map that you posted!!! It's too bad that nothing original from the town is there :-/ Thanks again!

Glad you found the information useful!

I grew up in Hawthorne, just a few miles away from Eastview. I've long been fascinated with the history of Westchester County, especially places which don't exist anymore. I'm hoping to add more information on Eastview once I track it down. The Tarrytown Historical Society has a good amount of information available; it's where I found the newspaper articles about Eastview.

Best of luck in your research! :)

Thanks for creating this place I have been looking for information on Eastview, I grew up in the last house that was standing from Eastview. My grandfather ran the pump station and my grandmother worked in the Eastview railroad station. The house was owned by the Rockefeller's, and whoever ran the pump station got to live in the house. Our family lived in the house from the 1920's till the late 1950's when my grandfather retired. The house was across the road from the pump station, it as knocked down in the 1970's I believe. I am looking for any old pictures or news articles on Eastview. I will be visiting the Tarrytown Historical Society, to see what further information I can find. Again thanks for this site and the help you have provided me.
